Lines & Wrinkles
What causes lines and wrinkles ?
Wrinkles are caused by changes in the skin associated with aging and sun exposure. In some cases, they are also caused by the contraction of underlying muscles. This is especially true around the eyes and mouth.
What are the treatment options for wrinkles ?
There are numerous treatments for lines and wrinkles. Topical tretinoin (RetinA) and alphahydroxy acids are beneficial. Glycolic acid peels and microdermabrasion work by stripping away the top layers of the skin.
Lines can be filled in by injecting a filler substance such as collagen, and the action of muscles causing certain lines can b e weakened by using botulinum toxin, commonly called Botox. Skin resurfacing can be accomplished with chemical peeling, manual dermabrasion, or laser resurfacing.
Generally, more aggressive, invasive procedures can produce quicker, more dramatic results -- but are more expensive, contain greater risks, and involve longer recovery periods.
Choosing the best approach depends upon an individual's lifestyle and goals. It is best to consult with Dr.M.Khanna about the various treatment options available.
