Hair transplant or Hair replacement or
hair restoration or hair
transplantation or hair grafting is most common cosmetic
surgery procedure request by male patients. The main
cause of baldness is heredity.
Depending upon the severity,
male baldness is classified into 7 grades. Hairs
fall from the front and the centre of the head, but
even
in the cases of severe baldness, they do not fall
from the back and sides of the head, as these hairs
are
not influenced by the gene that causes baldness and
are permanent. Hair is taken from the sides and back
of the head and these hairs are transplanted to the
bald area by Follicular Unit Transplant Technique
(FUT) and single hair grafts.
Hairs are arranged in the scalp in Follicular units
or groups of 1, 2, 3 or 4 hairs. In the Follicular
Unit Transplant Technique (FUT), these hair follicles
are harvested from the donor area which has permanent hairs and are transplanted
into the bald areas. Dr. Khanna has designed a special instrument called the "Kolkata
Slit" which is being patented and is very useful for Follicular Unit Hair
Transplantation or FUT.
The transplanted hair appear just like normal hair,
never fall and grow continuously at a rate of 2-3
cm. per month like other hair. Shampoo and oil
can be applied & they
can be combed to the style of your choice. The transplanted hairs are permanent
and grow like normal hair and need haircuts later.
The entire procedure is done under local anesthesia
and the patient is awake and aware during the hair
transplantation. We have a cable TV set in the
Operation Theatre, and the patient watches his favourite channel on television
whilst
the surgery is done. 4 to 6 people work at the same time, and it takes
3 to 6 hours
for a sitting to be complete. The patient goes home immediately after the
operation.
One or more sittings of Hair transplant may be required,
depending on the severity and extend of baldness.
A maximum of 2500-3000 grafts or Follicular
Units of
hair can be transplanted in one sitting and if required, the next sitting
can be done after 6 months.
There are no side-effects of Hair Transplantation.
The operation is on the scalp outside the skull
bone and the brain is inside the skull, and
there
are no adverse
effects of hair transplantation.
Dr Manoj Khanna and his team have satisfied more than
1500 cases of hair transplantation till date (31/12/2009)
and patients come to him for this procedure from all
over India and the world, including USA, UK, Europe,
Australia and New Zealand, South Africa, middle-east,
etc. He has done Hair transplant for many filmstars from Bollywood and Tollywodd, cricketers and almost all the current TV cricket commentators, includign ex-India cricket captains. He has recently opened offices in Dhaka and UAE, besides his clinics in Delhi and Mumbai. He visits Dubai and Dhaka every 2-3 months, and sees patients and operates there. His team does 20 to 25 cases of Hair transplant
every month and some results can be seen in the photo
